Courtenay's Art Days

Yay, Art!

Classes August 15, 2011

I offer art classes to people of all ages.  This is an opportunity for students to acquire new skills, sharpen existing skills, and use their creativity towards new projects.  I want all my students to have fun, learn something new, and practice practice practice!

Please don’t hesitate to call if you have a question or want to set something up.

LESSONS:   All materials are included.  Each lesson is 1 ½ hrs and focuses on a specific finished art piece.

Private $40 per student.

Group $20 per student (2-10 students  make a group).

Choose from the following:

  • Okeefe oil pastel flower- Students will observe Okeefe’s work, learn to use oil pastels correctly, then design a flower to complete with oil pastels.
  • Watercolor resist fish- Students will observe and draw real fish, learn to correctly use watercolor, then complete a watercolor fish painting.
  • Painted textured landscapes- Students will find and create textures using everyday items, then design and paint a landscape incorporating these textures with paint.
  • Pencil still life- Students will observe objects from life, learn to use value, study master works, then draw a still life arrangement using graphite.
  • Other options are available upon request

COURSES:  A series of 3 classes, each 1 ½ hrs aimed at building foundational skills, which can then be translated into other mediums and subjects.  All materials included, $100 per student.

Choose from:

  • Drawing 101- This class will focus on drawing techniques using charcoal and graphite.  We will cover gesture, contour lines, value, sighting, and historical master works.   This is not an official pre-requisite, but hopefully will be taken first in the sequence, because all other artistic endeavors stem from having basic drawing skills.
  • Painting 101- This class will focus on color and composition.  We will discuss the color wheel, color mixing, rule of thirds and design, painting methods, and historical master works.
  • Sculpture 101- This class will focus on three dimensional artwork.  We will use a variety of materials to create in the round and relief sculptures, as well as look at historical examples.

ART INTENSIVE:  1 Week (5 Days) of consecutive art classes, aimed toward Home School Groups.  Pricing varies depending on length of class, curriculum needs, and number of students.  I can usually accommodate any curriculum area you’d like to focus on.

Here are some ideas:

  • Elements and Principles of Art (Line, Shape, Color, Texture, Form, Value, Balance, Pattern, Emphasis, etc)
  • Subject Matter (Still life, Landscape, Portraiture)
  • Styles (Realsitic, Expressive, Impressionistic)
  • Cultures (Native American, Appalachian, Folk Art, Egyptian, Colonial, etc)
  • Mediums (graphite, charcoal, paint, watercolor, oil pastel, fibers)
  • Art and Core Subjects (using art to extend and strengthen core subject areas of math, science, literature, and history)
  • Art in the Bible (how art is used and expressed in the Bible)

I would be happy discussing other points of interest so that the curriculum is tailored to fit your group needs.

Prices are flexible depending on clients needs!
